PSG has now won the season-opening cup on 14 separate times.
Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.
The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown between the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the scoring early on.
Yet, the southern French side fired two times in the closing moments to take a shock advantage. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.
In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital equaliser in the final moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving decisive kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.
From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored with composure for PSG to seal a 4-1 shootout win.
Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last 13 seasons.
